Steiermark is an Austrian federal state defined by its Alpine terrain and fertile valleys, including the Graz Basin and Mur–Mürz valley. Graz, the state capital, sits on the Mur River and serves as the main hub for access to Styrian landscapes and wine regions.

Steiermark, also known as Styria, occupies a large portion of Austria’s Eastern Alps and includes important lowland areas that support agriculture and settlements. The region features prominent Alpine peaks such as Reichenstein and Windberg, with summer hiking and winter skiing as key seasonal activities. The Styrian wine regions—Südsteiermark, Vulkanland Steiermark, and Weststeiermark—are officially recognized in Austria’s wine classification system.

Steiermark covers parts of the Northern Limestone and Central Alps, with valleys like the Mur–Mürz and Graz Basin hosting most settlements.
